Graffiti (Gates)

The graffiti that i have chosen is from a Christian Graffiti Artist named J Scott. Using Christianity as graffiti it is an eye opener to me because Christianity is a strict religion. I would never expect someone to use religion when doing graffiti. Some may say its disrespectful and the line should never be crossed. They are both controversial and when put together can cause problems. This just shows that people are broadening their horizons when it comes to religion. The church is not so strict on what is acceptable and how you should conduct your life any more. There is more freedom in our century and it has worked it way into religion. The one question that I have is should J Scott graffiti be considered graffiti since it is not on public or private property. We all know that is illegal to tag a building but that should not be the reason why someone stops their hobby. I do consider graffiti art work and like art, should not be restricted only to one type of canvas. Art can come in many different shapes and form, so graffiti should be the same.

Graffiti by Caitlin Carver

This picture is a house that is right down the road from little 5 points. This house is boarded up so no one lives there. In the this it seems like more tagging than graffiti, but I do agree with Emily and believe that tagging is a form od art and graffiti. The whole house was actually graffitied up but this was the only shot available. I thought this house was an extremely impressive piece of art. It was also not the only one. There was an entire row of houses that was like this. Granted if it tagging or not, art or not. People are trying, in my opinion, to get noticed and get there work out there. And that is just like any other artist trying to make it big!

Graffiti by Emily Moore

This piece of graffiti was found in Peachtree City Ga on the side of a passing train. Now, I do believe that graffiti is art. It can be quite beautiful and expressive ( like the piece below this post by Jamie) but I believe this piece is more like tagging, which in my opinion is a type of graffiti. This piece seems like someone just got bored and decided to paint something. Now, while it does appear to say "smile", which is quite chipper but it overall appears to be the product of frivolity and boredom. So, while I do believe that graffiti is art, I do also believe that some of that art lacks a point or direction.

Graffiti Art (Jaime Grant)

This Graffiti picture was taken in Atlanta, on the side of the road. I think it is beautifully colored. I feel graffiti is art and it is a different way for artist's to express their talent. You don't have to attend art school to be able to be an artist. Being able to draw/paint is a gift itself. I also feel that tasteful Graffiti as this could be a display in an Art Museum. I find Graffiti to be talented art work and a very unique talent at that.

Black History Remix! by: Melissa Money

The Black History Remix Exhibit was every exquisite! I viewed the Civil Rights Movement through a series of pictures and displays. My favorite photograph was of a black woman in deep contemplation. She has the words written "I have overcome" on her jacket. This picture, along with many others, brought out many different emotions in me. This women's sadness sadden me. Also, a felt thankful for the freedoms that I posses today. If not for Civil Rights movement, these freedoms would not have been given to me.

History Remixed ( Gates )

Walking into the History Remixed exhibit I was a little on edge on what i was going to experience. I just wondered if i was going to see the usual gruesome pictures, the uplifting marches, the horrific attacks, or maybe the uniting of the blacks and whites for a greater cost, something different. These thoughts already made me uncomfortable and exhausted. Taking my first steps into the exhibit i already was let down. The pictures were of the truth but nothing original or new. The same old marches, dog attacks, water spraying, bus torching, and let my people go marches. The only new thing was finger prints of Rosa Parks and the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr. I am very appreciative for what these courageous African Americans have done for me and my fellow peers but i would have liked to learn something new.

History Remixed (Nicholas Williams)

The History Remixed exhibit was the most memorable part of my visit to the High Museum. It takes you through a timeline of Civil Rights Movement during the 1960's in America. To me, it shows the despair of blacks and necessity for social reform. As I walked through and observed the pictures and letters, pamphlets and posters and such, it showed me how intensely real the whole Movement was. Most of the pictures they had on display I had already seen, but there were others that I had not and those were the ones that gave me an overwhelming feeling. At one point I actually had to walk out and to get some air because I started to feel like I was being suffocated. The immense amount of violence, and the unnecessary casualties caught on film became too much for me to handle. If the exhibit had not already left the museum, I would suggest you to see it for yourself. I would not say that it changed the way I felt about that time period, but it made me open my eyes a little bit more to the realities of it.
